The CTCAPG is a professional non-profit organisation established in 1994. It consists of approximately 30 psychotherapists, all of whom practice psychoanalytically informed psychotherapy with children and adolescents
The organisation aims to provide a structure for the professional development of psychotherapists working with children and adolescents. Members receive ongoing psychoanalytic education, specifically around the practice of psychotherapy with children and adolescents. CTCAPG is accredited for Continuing Professional Development (CPD). CPD points are earned at each of the two hourly monthly meetings as well as additional talks and workshops (including Ethics) which are conducted at various times throughout the year.
All members of CTCAPG are required to be qualified practitioners and registered with a formal Council e.g. the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). They are also required to have had or be in substantial weekly psychoanalytic psychotherapy, of at least 12 months’ duration; to be in ongoing psychoanalytic supervision, and to conducting, or be preparing to conduct, psychoanalytically-informed psychotherapy with children and adolescents.
